An online talk about clerical canines in history presented by Dr Kathleen Walker-Meikle

Join us on Zoom this December for a wildly entertaining talk on dogs and the clergy in history, packed with wonderful illustrations. Focusing on the Middle Ages, this talk will cover the entire gamut of clerical canines and their devoted owners, from cardinals spending extravagantly on the latest fashionable dog coats to nuns bringing in their pups to religious services and stuffing them with milk and the most expensive buns money could buy. The talk will also discuss saints associated with dogs and miracles in which a faithful furry friend was involved, and even the tradition of dog-headed St Christopher. We’ll also examine dogs turning up in religious art, from the Annunciation to the Crucifixion, including the ones looking for handouts at the Last Supper!

Dr Kathleen Walker-Meikle has already given talks on feline hijinks and ecclesiastics, join her now for the companion talk on dogs!
