Museums Showoff at the Collections Trust conference!

Hello conference folk! Are you ready for some top class collections-related entertainment?

We’ve lined up the crème de la crème of museums & archives talent to reveal behind-the-scenes stories, intriguing insights and amazing projects. Grab a seat, get a bite to eat or a drink, and prepare to be entertained!

Museums Showoff, the cabaret-style event for all those who work with museums, heritage and collections, will be in the Old Bailey Bar at the Magpie & Stump on Wednesday 28th September.

Taking to the stage for this extravaganza of wit and wisdom, objects and exhibitions will be:

Gregory Akerman – Everybody’s favourite esoteric comic, the elusive, enigmatic, effervescent comic Gregory Akerman, shall shepherd us through this wonderful evening. He has written this – he is excited. www.gregoryakerman.org

Sarah Levitt – When Sarah began her career in 1981 labels were hand-written in italics and displays featured cut-out cork lettering. Now she's over 60 and wants to share “the joy of tech” with you.

Robert Humphreys – Rescue! - the romantic tale of priceless photographs saved from a skip in the Mile End Road a quarter century ago.

Lorraine Finch – Come and meet Comic Book Girl. A mild mannered conservator's super hero alter ego, who is helping people at home to save their precious family heirlooms from the Agents of Destruction.

Andrea Wallace – What happens when you collect and connect the online collections of various cultural institutions? And what can you learn about online and material collections in the process? Display At Your Own Risk is an experimental open source exhibition that features - wait for it - physical reproductions of digital reproductions of physical artworks held by cultural institutions from around the world. In other words, it's about to get REAL meta.

Emma Traherne – Join me as I recount some of the discoveries I have made during my first year working in the complex and sometimes baffling world that is the Houses of Parliament. I shall take you on a whistle stop tour covering the shortage of coffee tables, how to move a throne and talking benches.

Jason Webber – The British Library saves all of the UK Web space. Yes, ALL of it and if you think that you have a big collection, we are adding two billion new things every single year! Apart from wowing you with big numbers I will show that we have answered the really BIG questions in life, such as ‘who is best: cats or dogs?’ and ‘did Steve Jobs travel through time to invent the iPhone?’
