Women Cheesemakers: Past, Present, Future

This event has finished Took place on: Friday, 10th May 2019

 £20.00

A talk and tasting with female pioneers in the cheesemaking industry

Meet the women cheesemakers tranforming the field of cheese by championing the revival of British territorial cheese production. With Bronwen Percival of Neal’s Yard Dairy, and cheesemakers Mrs Ruth Kirkham and Carrie Rimes.

Ticket includes cheese samples.

Bronwen Percival is the cheese buyer for Neal’s Yard Dairy in London. In addition to working with cheesemakers and the company’s maturation team she works to mobilize collaboration between cheesemakers and the scientific community. She is the co-author of the critically acclaimed Reinventing the Wheel: Milk, Microbes and the Fight for Real Cheese.

Mrs Ruth Kirkham has been making Lancashire cheese for over 50 years and has witnessed the near obliteration of British territorial cheese, and its revival. Kirkham's Lancashire is widely recognised as one of Britain's best cheeses and while production has now passed to Mrs Kirkham's son Graham she is still on hand to offer advice and help where needed.

Carrie Rimes makes her cheese, Brefu Bach, on the fringes of Snowdonia National Park near Bethseda in Wales. She is committed to sourcing the most interesting sheep’s milk possible from traditional Welsh breeds feeding on species-rich pastures, with the highest welfare conditions
