2019 is a significant year for the history of comedy and the UK. It marks the 40th anniversary of the birth of the alternative comedy scene and 50 years since Monty Python’s first broadcast and the premiere of Carry On Camping. It is also the year the UK will leave the EU. Join Senior Curator Simon Sladen as he introduces a new display in the British Galleries exploring comedy’s impact on society. It asks why and how has comedy been used as a marker of culture, and how does comedy affect the way we see ourselves and others?
