Acclaimed Victorian London historian Lee Jackson is visiting us to talk about his new book Dirty old London: the Victorian fight against filth.
Lee's latest book, Dirty old London: the Victorian fight against filth guides us through a city where "horse traffic filled the streets with dung, household rubbish went uncollected, cesspools brimmed with 'night soil', graveyards teemed with rotting corpses, the air itself was choked with smoke".
Pre-booking your place is essential, and there will be a £2.00 entry fee on the day. If you would like to book a space, please drop into or call South Friern library on 020 8359 23946 or send an email entitled 'Lee Jackson' to [email protected] including your full contact details and how many spaces you wish to reserve.
This is an event taking place for our forthcoming Barnet Libraries Festival - Beyond the Book, which will be running from 2-15 February 2015. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest news.
