Catch this modern masterpiece during its strictly limited run – an opportunity not to be missed.
What is "Our Country’s Good" about?
"Spewed from our country, forgotten, bound to the dark edge of the earth..."
A ship embarks on a 15,000-mile journey to Australia, packed with Britain's convicts serving sentences for crimes ranging from sheep theft (as in the case of 17-year-old Thomas Barrett) to a sailor assault (for 25-year-old James Freeman), and even an 82-year-old Dorothy Handland cast away for stealing a biscuit.
Upon their perilous arrival in 1788, maintaining discipline in the colony proves to be a brutal task, with cruelty rampant. To instill order and endeavor to "civilize" the desperate, violent, and poverty-stricken group, Ralph Clark, a young and ambitious lieutenant, proposes they stage a play.
Navigating challenges such as a mostly illiterate cast, rising distrust among the ranks, and the leading actor facing the gallows, the crew embarks on a journey to produce a truly unique theater production. Witness the gripping narrative unfold in this compelling exploration of resilience and creativity in the face of adversity.
