Following its triumphant five-star, sold-out stint at VAULT Festival 2023, IN CLAY, a "perfectly formed and expertly polished" new musical according to The Reviews Hub, makes its way to Upstairs at the Gatehouse for a strictly limited engagement.
Based on a true story, this "poignant reflection on ambition, regrets & self-fulfilment" (Fringebiscuit) unfolds in a charming Parisian kitchen in the late 1930s. Marie-Berthe Cazin, a ceramist in her early 40s, eagerly anticipates the arrival of her dearest childhood friend and now renowned artist, Henrietta Tirman. As Marie readies herself for the upcoming evening, she contemplates the profound joys and sorrows of a life dedicated to the creation of art.
IN CLAY premiered at VAULT Festival earlier this year to critical acclaim, garnering five-star reviews and a nomination for Show of the Week and an Offies OffFest award.
