We are delighted to next online talk with Kate Macdonald, historian and director of Handheld Press.

Kate Macdonald will be in conversation with Amara Thornton and Katy Soar about the pitfalls of archaeology in literature and the detail of the digging in supernatural archaeological fiction.

The book, Strange Relics, edited by archaeological historian Amara Thornton and classical archaeologist Katy Soar is a new collection of classic stories about supernatural archaeological finds. To be published on 20th September, the authors and stories range from the well-known to the new and surprising.

About Amara Thornton:

Amara is a historian of archaeology. Her work focuses on British archaeologists in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She situates archaeology within its broader historical context, including the history of tourism, the history of publishing and popular media, the history of education, government policies and women's history. She is an Honorary Research Associate at UCL.

About Katy Soar:

Katy is a Senior Lecturer in Classical Archaeology; she gained a BA in Ancient History from the University of Birmingham, and later an MA and PhD in Archaeology from the University of Nottingham. Prior to joining the University of Winchester in April 2017, Katy held academic positions at the University of Sheffield, the Open University and Royal Holloway University of London.
