Join David Wells as he reflects on the impact of the British Army’s engagements in the Caribbean during the 18th century.
During the 18th century, the Caribbean was a theatre of war for a series of conflicts between Europe’s major powers. The events of this period forced the British Army to develop new strategies and tactical approaches to combat in the region.
In this talk, David Wells will reflect on the actions of the British Army at this time. He will consider how the everyday hazards faced by British troops eventually led to the recruitment of soldiers from the Caribbean itself, ultimately resulting in the formation of the West India Regiments.
