The Cooling the Tube programme was established in 2005 to mitigate the problem of increasing temperatures across the London Underground network, and to ensure the continued safe operation of trains. With plans for line upgrades and increased services through the introduction of new, faster trains that will use more energy and create more heat, there was a need to find effective methods of controlling temperatures.
Nearly a decade on, this session will cover what London Underground has achieved and what future plans are in development, including the opportunity for waste heat to be utilised by external stakeholders.
