Join our Archive Team as they display original documents that we used in our research for the exhibition. Visit their table to speak to the team about their work and see the original documents up close.

Curator-led Tour

6.15pm. Free, drop in.

Join our curator for an introductory 20 minute tour of our exhibition Slavery & the Bank. The tour will focus on the Bank of England’s connections to transatlantic slavery and the slave trade.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to avoid queues as you enter the museum.

Talk: The Bank of England and Transatlantic Slavery, 1694-1888

6pm to 7pm. Free, registration is essential.

Join Dr Michael Bennett, exhibition researcher for Slavery & the Bank, for a free talk exploring the research that went into our exhibition. This talk will look at the ways the Bank was connected to the system of transatlantic slavery through its part in the wider financial sector at the time and the business activities of its governors and directors. It will also explore two detailed case studies: the Bank’s financial stake in two plantations in Grenada and the Bank’s role in the distribution of slavery compensation during the 1830s.
