The Battle of Cable Street is one of the most important events in the history of Tower Hamlets. Decades before smartphones could capture ‘instant history’, how was this day recorded? There are many contemporary photographs and newsreels, which have become iconic. But there are also other sources that can throw light on what happened on 4 October 1936.
Join our archivist Andrew Lewis for a special talk discussing the recently catalogued records of the Cable Street Group - a local community-based organisation dedicated to keeping alive the memory of those who came together to stop the British Union of Fascists marching through east London.
