Go behind the closed doors of Walton Water Treatment Works to marvel at the historic Thames Water pumping station.
Walton Pumping Station is an important part of the infrastructure that supplies water to Surrey and West London. The original building was designed by James Restler, then Deputy Chief Engineer to the Metropolitan Water Board. Charles Hearson, Chairman of the Works and Stores Committee of the Metropolitan Water Board, laid the foundation stone of the pumping station on 24th October 1908. The station cost a total of £119,310 and began operating on 10th June 1911 when John Burns MP, President of the Local Government Board, started the engines.
This Thames Water site is only opened on special occasions for public tours and only those with a pre-booked ticket will be allowed access. Named booking only - ticket and ID will be required on the day.
