Carlyle’s House
Description
Hidden in the quiet back streets of Chelsea is the home of Thomas and Jane Carlyle.
A twist of fate turned Carlyle into a star of the 19th-century literary world.
The house was opened to the public in 1895, just fourteen years after Carlyle’s death.
It is preserved as it was when the Carlyles lived there and is a good example of a middle class Victorian home.
