Station History
13th Dec 1983 | The rebuilt ticket hall was opened by the Chairman of the GLC's Transport Committee, Dave Wetael on Monday 13 December 1983. The new decorative panels on the platforms were also unveiled. |
13th Mar 1979 | New 350ft long black and white murals were unveiled on the Northern line platforms, designed by David Gentleman |
17th Jun 1973 | The northern line section of the station (at the time called Strand), closed on this day to be rebuilt as a combined Northern and Jubilee line station. It was expected to be closed for two years. |
21st Jan 1971 | Automatic ticket barriers were brought into use at the station on this day - but for entry to the station only. The exit barriers followed shortly afterwards. |
