Prepare to be immersed in a world of forbidden love, concealed kinship, and a perilous tapestry woven from secrets and deceit...
A decade after its captivating debut at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in 2014, John Webster's seminal revenge tragedy, "The Duchess of Malfi," is set to return to London's only indoor candlelit theatre in February 2024.
This gripping narrative revolves around a forbidden love story, where the recently widowed Duchess finds herself smitten with her steward, Antonio. However, her controlling brothers vehemently oppose her desire to remarry, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle of wills, where truths are concealed and lies are told in the name of love.
In a world dominated by rigid male authority, this production explores the lengths a woman must go to protect her loved ones and poses the question: What desperate measures will the men in her life resort to in order to manipulate her fate?
The acclaimed director Rachel Bagshaw, known for her work in "Midnight Movie" at the Royal Court, makes her directorial debut at the Globe with this groundbreaking anniversary rendition of Webster's visceral tale of misogyny and duplicity.
"The Duchess of Malfi" is a captivating part of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse's 10th-anniversary season, promising an unforgettable evening of theater that delves into the timeless themes of love, power, and the lengths one will go to control their destiny.
