History of Alexandra Palace Rail Station

2nd Jan 2010Oyster card readers were installed at the station during 2008 and activated on 2 January 2010 for use with the Oyster Pay As You Go System.
17th May 1982The station was renamed again, to Alexandra Palace, on 17 May 1982.
18th Mar 1971The station reverted to its original name of Wood Green on 18 March 1971.
18th Oct 1869A railway workman, George Welsh was killed after being hit by a train when trying to clear the line at the station from the effects of flooding during heavy rain.
Circa Jan 1864The station was renamed to Wood Green (Alexandra Park) in 1864
1st May 1859The station was opened by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) on 1 May 1859 as Wood Green.
