Nicholas Hawksmoor: a conversation from three perspectives

Description

From humble beginnings as clerk to Sir Christopher Wren, Nicholas Hawksmoor rose to become one of the greatest architects of his age. His powerful and idiosyncratic buildings continue to exert a hold on the imagination of architects, artists, writers and poets.

In the atmospheric setting of St Anne’s Limehouse, the most magnificent of Hawksmoor’s churches, three speakers will discuss the man and his work.

They are:

Hélène Binet, architectural photographer, whose pictures of Hawksmoor’s churches, first shown at the Venice Biennale in 2012, are currently in St Anne’s as part of the Hawksmoor6 exhibition.

Owen Hopkins, architectural historian and museum curator, and author of From the Shadows, the Architecture and Afterlife of Nicholas Hawksmoor.

Iain Sinclair, writer, poet, filmmaker, and psychogeographer, who explored the mysterious cartographic connections between Hawksmoor’s six churches in his book Lud Heat.

This event is part of the Hawksmoor300 project to restore St Anne’s Limehouse, the last remaining unrestored Hawksmoor church, which is on the Heritage At Risk Register of English Heritage.
