Exhibition: Christabel Balfour Open Studios

For London Craft Week, Christabel Balfour’s East London weaving studio opens its doors to the public for the first time. Working across four British and Scandinavian floor looms, the studio produces handwoven tapestries and rugs using sustainable materials, with an emphasis on simplicity, texture and geometric form.

Throughout the week, Christabel showcases how she prepares and warps her looms, demonstrating tapestry and rug weaving and explaining the differences between the two. Visitors can see her work at all stages of the process and learn more about the craft of tapestry weaving from start to finish.

The studio is also the home of Balfour & Co Weaving Supplies; visitors can purchase their own yarn and weaving tools to take home.
