True is The Dream explores the photography of Derek D’Souza, who has captured extraordinary and insightful glimpses of one of Britain’s most revered groups - and frontman Paul Weller - over 4 decades.
The Jam had a string of hits between 1977 and 1982, including Down in the Tube Station at Midnight, Going Underground, and That’s Entertainment. Paul Weller subsequently enjoyed a hugely successful career with the Style Council, and as a solo artist with ballads like You Do Something To Me.
Photographer Derek D’Souza, 62, is a long-term friend and fan of the band’s. In 1981 - when The Jam were at their height - he sent in photographs he had taken in the audience at their gigs and was subsequently asked to photograph them for their next single, Absolute Beginners. Derek’s most famous photo shows the band behind gate railings in the grounds of Chiswick House. Since that career-defining moment, Derek has shot hundreds of images of The Jam, The Style Council and Paul Weller.
