Description
Epping Forest has cows in the woods today. They stroll in social groups, they settle down to chew the cud and they gently by their grazing restore grassland and woodland alike to habitats that favour the diversity of plant and animal life.
The City of London’s herd of traditional longhorns are conservation cows at work and are favourites with Epping Forest visitors too. Find out more about the Forest’s grazing history, how the ‘cow saved the Forest’ in 1874 and grazing management today.
The exhibition opens on 13 May, one of the traditional dates when across the Forest, commoners brought their cattle to the Reeve of their parish to be marked.
