Description

'Arrows of Desire' is a forthcoming group art exhibition, where thirty established and emerging contemporary artists will re-interpret the image of Saint Sebastian for a twenty-first century audience.

The exhibition runs for two weeks, coinciding with London's Pride celebrations.

Saint Sebastian has long been a source of fascination to artists, from his original religious context as a Roman martyr, through various incarnations as plague protector, sport patron to gay icon.

His stark image of baroque suffering and defiance mixed with androgynous eroticism has had a particular impact counter and sub culture groups.

Work will explore a variety of media; painting, sculpture, performance and video.

Various events will punctuate the duration of the show's run, from a taboo discovery of Sebastian on film to the opportunity to draw the Saint in the flesh courtesy of Art Model collective's life drawing session.

'Arrows of Desire' is an irreverent exploration of this seductive saint.
