Switzerland’s 1816 ‘year without a summer’, which provided the backdrop for the conception of Frankenstein, was part of a three-year period of severe climate deterioration.

Chloe Dewe Mathews returned to the glaciers 200 years later, and the resulting photographs explore the environmental and social issues of our time through the themes of Mary Shelley’s novel.
