Death in The British Museum
British Museum
Description
Explore the British Museum and how different cultures dealt with the concept of death and memorialisation!Explore the collections of The British Museum through a slightly different perspective!
The world can literally be found behind the pillars of this 265 year old museum. Objects from the city states of Ancient Greece, body part recepticles from those of status and power in the 15th century, mummies who questioned gender and identitiy in Ancient Egypt. But what can thes objects tell them about death, memorialisation and the past itself?
Join public/cemetery historian Sheldon K. Goodman as he takes you around The British Museum for an alternative tour to the usual/expected Rosetta Stone/Parthenon marbles must-sees.
This tour will also ook honestly at the controversial history connected to some of the objects here, and place them in context to the themes of restititution, empire and decolonisation.
