Collecting and curating Picasso

British Museum

Description

Join world-renowned art dealers Frederick Mulder and Anne-Françoise Gavanon, long-time scholars of Picasso, as they talk with Catherine Daunt, curator of Picasso: printmaker.

The panel will discuss some of the journeys of the works featured in this remarkable exhibition and what these show them about the developments in collecting works by this towering figure in art. How have these prints come to be in the British Museum collection? Why, how and when were such extraordinary prints made – and what does the process look like for choosing and curating works of such significance?

Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was one of the most inventive and influential talents ever to explore the medium of print. In addition to his many paintings, sculptures and drawings, the Málaga-born artist made over 2,400 prints during his career. From his early years as an artist in Paris to his old age in the South of France, printmaking offered Picasso the opportunity to develop ideas, tell stories and embark on new creative adventures.

Premier printmaking studios, patrons, dealers, collectors and benefactors are a significant part of this story.
