Film Screening: Dance Craze (1981)

  6:45 pm - 8:30 pm

A special screening of legendary concert film 'Dance Craze', capturing the best of 2 Tone Records, the iconic label that emerged from Coventry in 1979 and showcasing the British ska revival.

Featuring: Bad Manners, The Beat, The Bodysnatchers, Madness, The Selecter and The Specials.

Director Joe Massot and acclaimed cinematographer Joe Dunton filmed 2 Tone bands at various venues over the course of 1980, resulting in an incredible document of the sheer force and energy of the musicians and fans from one of the most exhilarating post punk scenes. Dance Craze has now been newly restored to 4K from 70mm materials with a brand new Dolby Atmos sound mix by the British Film Institute in collaboration with Chrysalis Records.

We'll be screening this film as part of our ongoing heritage programme exploring youth culture and movements in the 1970s and 80s.
