Dig Deeper: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of the Dinosaur

This event has finished Took place on: Wednesday, 10th Jan 2024

 £25

Palaeontologist and author, Professor Steve Brusatte, will explore the 250-million-year story of the dinosaur two centuries after the first species were discovered and named in England.

Professor Steve, who was the palaeontology consultant for the film Jurassic World: Dominion as well as for the BBC show, Walking with Dinosaurs, will delve into the incredible evolutionary journey of those ‘terrible lizards’.

Attendees will discover where dinosaurs came from and how they rose from humble origins to global dominance before a giant asteroid hit Earth and wiped all but a few out. Some feathered, winged species survived, living on as today’s birds.

Steve will explore how generations of scientists, from the 1820s all the way to today, have pieced together how dinosaurs ruled the world for millions of years. These experts include the Natural History Museum’s resident experts, Prof Paul Barrett and Dr Susie Maidment, who use the latest technology and the Museum’s globally important dinosaur collections, to share with the world what these animals looked like, how they lived and how they spread across the world.

The in-person audience will be invited to dig deeper and ask questions in the Q+A segment of the talk. Those streaming the talk online will be able to ask questions in real-time during the livestream by heading to the video on YouTube and typing question in the chat box.
