Save Liverpool Street Station

Speakers: Robert Thorne, Eric Reynolds and Griff Rhys Jones

Robert Thorne will talk about the history and evolution of Liverpool Street Station. Robert was one of the GLC team that fought successfully to save Liverpool Street in 1976-77 and is the author of a history of the station. Since the 1970s he has worked on numerous building conservation projects, including at St.Pancras, Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. He is the co-author of Change at King’s Cross (1990) and St.Pancras Station (2012). .

Eric Reynolds will analyse the flawed commercial case behind developments such as Liverpool Street Station. Eric is a leading regeneration specialist and advisor across the country, founder and operator of markets at Camden Lock, Spitalfields, Greenwich and many others, founder of Container City at Trinity Buoy Wharf, led the campaign to save Smithfield Market, and is Chairman of SAVE.

Griff Rhys Jones will introduce the campaign to reject the proposed redevelopment of the station. Griff is a Welsh comedian, writer actor and television presenter well known to all through numerous television shows and documentaries. Less well known is his role as President of the Victorian Society, since 2018, that has involved him in many media campaigns on heritage issues, and most recently the campaign to stop the massive redevelopment of Liverpool Street Station.
