This event has finished Took place on: Monday, 6th Nov 2023
There will be an overnight rehearsal of the ceremonial aspects of the State Opening of Parliament.
No official details, but in general, based on previous rehearsals, Whitehall will be sealed off from Midnight, and from around 3am, soldiers form up and learn their positions, then typically around 5am, the carriages ride through from the north to Parliament and then return as daylight is dawning.
The procession of carriages will be between Buckingham Palace and Parliament, and you can watch along the Mall or Whitehall.
There are no facilities or plans for bystanders - it's usually only seen by the handful of people who work night shifts or stumble upon it by accident.
Police will be around keeping an eye on things if you did turn up to watch and while the roads will be closed, the pavements are usually open.
Caveat Emptor - the road closures are from 11:45pm on Sunday to 6am on Monday, so the rehearsal can be any time during the closure. My 3am to 6am guide is just a guide, not a guarantee, as a ceremonial rehearsal earlier this year took place at 1am, which quite ruined someone's night.
It's also not really a public event, just something you can see if you know it's happening.
