Kick off 2022 in style with the first NEW SHOOTS event of the year. SP’s Cath Le Couteur will be joined for a special online Q&A with the BAFTA Award-winning English Japanese actor, writer and director Will Sharpe, AND the BAFTA and Oscar nominated production designer Suzie Davies.

The pair have recently worked together on the highly anticipated feature film THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN, which has an all star cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Claire Foy, Toby Jones, Richard Ayoade, Nick Cave and the Oscar winning director Taika Waititi. The film is based on the extraordinary true story of eccentric British artist Louis Wain (Cumberbatch), whose playful, sometimes even psychedelic pictures helped to transform the public's perception of cats forever. The film is set to release in UK cinemas in early January, having received its World Premiere at The Telluride Film Festival before screening at TIFF.

Later this year Will Sharpe will bring his singular vision to the four-part HBO/Sky drama, LANDSCAPERS, a series he has co-written and directed, starring Olivia Colman and David Thewlis. Will made his name as an auteur, writing, directing, and starring in the dark comedy-drama FLOWERS opposite Olivia Colman and Julian Barratt. The first season was nominated for a BAFTA for “Best Scripted Comedy”, and the second season aired in 2018 to widespread critical acclaim for its depiction of mental illness, grief and familial dysfunction. Described as 'the invention of a new genre’ (The Observer), ‘Utter Brilliance’ (The Guardian) and ‘One of the most singular small screen visions in a long time’ (The Telegraph), the director Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread, There Will Be Blood) discussed his love of Flowers on the Adam Buxton Podcast, calling it “fully formed” and “perfect”.

As well as his starring role in FLOWERS, you might also recognise Will for his role as the rent boy Rodney in the brilliant BBC thriller series GIRI/HAJI (now showing on Netflix), for which he won a BAFTA for best Supporting Actor. Will’s previous work also includes the pitch black comedy BLACK POND, which he wrote and co-directed with Tom Kingsley. The film was nominated for a BAFTA for Outstanding Debut, as well as Best First Feature Film at the Writers Guild Awards and for the Audience Award at SXSW. Together they were named in Variety’s top ten European directors to watch, and won the Evening Standard Film award for Best Newcomer.

Suzie Davies has had a successful career across film and TV, and is perhaps best known for her BAFTA and OSCAR nominated production design on Mike Leigh’s award winning films MR TURNER and PETERLOO.
