An online wander through some of London's festive decorations looking at the lights and sights, and hearing about history and traditions

It's that time of year again!

It's a delight to see London's streets looking so marvellously colourful. Shops are bedecked in baubles and beautiful things, streets are twinkling and little lanes and backstreets look lovely.

I've been out and about with my camera to see what's new for this year and, using my photographs to make this feel as much as possible as a walk in the real world, I will take you on a virtual journey starting at The Savoy hotel in the Strand, up through Covent Garden, Seven Dials, and Leicester Square to end our journey in Trafalgar Square by the big Christmas tree.

As we stop to look at glittering arches, magical foyers, alluring avenues and Christmas markets in sparkly squares, I will also talk about the meanings behind the decorations and the origins of our Christmas traditions. I hope to show you a few locations, backstreets and details that you might not have known about before.

And you won't need to leave the comfort of your sofa, let alone wrap up warm. Simply put on something cosy, pour yourself a mulled wine and sit back. You might like to have map of the area handy whilst you are attending so that you can follow the trail, although clear instructions are given throughout and you'll easily be able to remember this route should you wish to revisit it yourself on foot.

After the tour the meeting room will stay open for questions and discussion.

Details for how to access this event will be on your booking confirmation which will be sent via email after you have purchased your ticket(s).

This tour is repeated throughout December 2021 until January 6th 2022

The same route is also available as a walking tour, but with a slightly different title: "Baubles Bright Lights and Beasts"– please see my other listings

Some customer feedback: "well presented and paced, a real pleasure!" .... "full of Christmas info – we loved the photos from various angles and your amazing eye for detail – we will definitely walk the route ourselves" ... "What a great presentation, informative and engaging, you made it look easy and the time went quickly" / "It's the next best thing to actually being there!"

........................................................

My guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. I design and research every tour myself and the research never ends. The tours and talks I offer are all on subjects I am genuinely interested in – each highlights a different facet of my personality. I am specifically interested in the changing face of our streets over time and how those changes have affected local communities and the social history of an area. And I don't use a script, even for my virtual tours.
