Boris Johnson's Assault On Truth

This event has finished Took place on: Monday, 11th Oct 2021

 £15

As stated in Erskine May, Parliament's official bible, ministers who are found to have lied to parliament are expected to offer their resignation. At least this is what used to happen, just ask John Profumo, the war minister who unwisely denied having sex with Christine Keeler. We now have a Prime Minister who, even to his most ardent supporters, has an objectively cavalier attitude to the truth. Furthermore, much of the media refrain from using the "L" work and doing so on the commons floor would be considered "unparliamentary language." If editors and MP's aren't able to call a spade a spade then who can hold Johnson to account?

One Journalist and Author has no such problem. "He lies habitually, with impunity, and without conscience," writes Peter Oborne in his latest book, The Assault On Truth: Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and the Emergence of a New Moral Barbarism.

Interviewed by Annette Dittert, Senior Correspondent and Bureau Chief ARD, Oborne will speak of how Boris Johnson has 'lied' throughout his career and argue that the ruthless use of political deceit under the Johnson government is part of a wider attack on civilised values and traditional institutions across the Western world.
