In this Zoom webinar, Sarah Saunders (Head of Learning and National Partnerships, British Museum) will introduce various approaches to using the Museum as a resource for Art History, including exhibitions, a learning programme and access to the collection.

In addition, Hilary Williams (Education Officer: Art History, British Museum) will discuss a series of case studies that show art historical influences which link disparate parts of the collection.

These include:

Hellenism to Gandhara – how Hellenistic art reached the Indus Valley

A Michelangelo drawing and a ceramic piece – how a preparatory drawing for part of a massive composition appeared on a piece of ceramic art

Greek vases – how Sir William Hamilton's collection and his publication inspired Wedgwood's Pegasus Vase (given by the potter to the British Museum as a piece of contemporary art)

This online event is held in partnership with the Association for Art History (AAH) as part of their Art History Festival 2021 (Opens in new window).
