Two events on one day - as Watermen and Lightermen row heavy barges down the Thames.

The barges used today can weigh up to 30 tonnes and no more than three crew members can row at any one time, using 20-foot oars to row along the river.

The barge-driving races re-enact the way Thames Watermen used to manoeuvred their barges on the River Thames in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Modern-day Watermen and Lightermen compete in this race.

The Dave Pope Barge Drive is scheduled to start in the vicinity of Waterloo Bridge at 12:00 and be completed at a finish line at Tower Bridge by 12:30. This will consist of two Barges plus support vessels.

The Steve Faldo Barge Drive is scheduled to start in the vicinity of St Georges Stairs at 14:00 and be completed at a finish line at Westminster Bridge by 15:30. This will consist of three Barges plus support vessels.
