An illustrated talk , on his new book Arts and Crafts Churches of Great Britain: Architects, Craftsmen and Patrons

Roger Button’s new book – Arts and Crafts Churches of Great Britain - provides a fascinating overview of more than fifty of the nation’s places of worship inspired by one of the greatest design movements of the 19th century.

In this lecture, Roger will explore how the Arts and Crafts Movement re-awakened interest in vernacular buildings, stressed the importance of craftsmanship and laid the foundations of the modern and post-modern architecture that now dominates the built environment.

He will focus on the ways in which nature and the environment proved important to the architects, craftsmen and patrons of Arts and Crafts churches including John Dando Sedding and Henry Wilson.

Roger Button is an author and a retired civil engineer. He has been interested in the Arts and Crafts movement since woodwork lessons at school and in the churches for almost as long. Copies of Roger’s book, published by 2QT (Publishing) Ltd., will be available from our Festival bookshop.
