Southwark Cathedral Tour: Over 900 Years of History!

This event has finished Took place on: Saturday, 17th Jul 2021

 £8

Discover the story of a priory that became a parish church that became a Cathedral

Southwark Cathedral has had a long and distinguished history with over 900 years of Christian witness and mission. The church has seen the events of history unfold around it, witnessing the lives of Bishops, Royalty and the Royal households, Shakespeare's contemporaries, the changing parishioners of the London Bridge area and the occasional cat or two.

Your tour with a Cathedral guide will uncover this rich and colourful history in a both informative and entertaining manner.

Discover why Southwark Cathedral is strongly associated with Winchester and why a former Bishop is buried here. Learn the name of the famous London hospital that was founded by the church. Uncover which writer visited to ring the bells. All, and more, will be revealed!

These tours runs for an hour. Although suitable for big kids, we are running a special family orientated tour which can be booked here.

Please meet your guide in the Cathedral courtyard by the Cathedral cafe.

About our Guides

Our Cathedral guides undertake extensive training to learn 900 years of cathedral history and volunteer their time to deliver tour and walks for the cathedral. Many of them also work as Blue Badge Guides, City of London Guides and Greenwich Guides and are very knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects that they share with those who attend their tours.

Spaces are strictly limited so early booking is recommended.
