Nowadays, the only traces of Limehouse Chinatown are a few street names off the East and West India Dock Roads, but until the Second World War it was known around the world. From a small settlement of Chinese sailors, an myth grew that reveals much about race, empire and fear of the unknown in industrial London. Tom Bolton fearlessly enters the opium dens of Limehouse!

Tom Bolton is a researcher and writer, the author of London’s Lost Rivers: A Walker’s Guide Volumes 1 & 2, Vanished City: London's Lost Neighbourhoods, Low Country: Brexit on the Essex Coast; and Camden Town: Dreams of Another London.
