Author and Historian Neil Jackson gives a virtual tour of Saltaire, examining the development of this Victorian model town over 23 years.

Saltaire was a model town, designed by Messrs. Lockwood and Mawson to accommodate the workers at Sir Titus Salt’s two vast alpaca wool mills. Built between 1853 and 1876, it comprised not only some 850 houses, but an Institute, a school, a Congregational church and Sunday school, a Weslyan Methodist chapel, alms houses and public baths. It did not, however, contain a pub. This virtual tour will explore the development of the town over 23 years as well as some of the public buildings which served the community. The tour will be led by Neil Jackson, author of the book Saltaire: The Making of a Model Town (Spire Books, 2010).
