Enhancing Post-Pandemic Sustainability and Resilience: Paving the Way for Systemic Change

COVID-19 has highlighted the compounding risks that systemic disruptions pose in an increasingly interconnected world. As the UK slowly emerges from the pandemic, we have an opportunity not just to rebuild but to redesign our social and economic systems. There is now wide agreement that recovery efforts must support both human wellbeing and environmental sustainability, in a manner that is inclusive and prioritises those most vulnerable.

However, translating this vision into concrete policies and governance mechanism remains an ongoing challenge.

Importantly, such responses must also take into account the need to prepare for future large-scale risks, from climate change to novel health emergencies.

This panel discussion brings together leading experts from government, civil society and the private sector to discuss the prospects for “building back better”, towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
