In 1948, ‘Official War Poster Artist’, Abram Games won the competition to design the symbol for the Festival of Britain. This nation-wide festival opened 70 years ago on 4 May 1951 and following its successful five months run, it left an enduring legacy on design in Britain. This talk will follow Games’s creative process from designer’s brief to the ubiquitous, versatile and memorable ‘Britannia’ emblem which adorned buildings, posters, souvenirs and stamps. Games’s Festival contribution helped to give colourless post-war Britain a welcome ‘tonic to the nation’. Join Naomi Games to learn more.
