British Artisan Cheese and their Producers.
An innovator in the field of fine tasting experiences, Francis Gimblett has spent over thirty years selling, making, teaching and entertaining with artisan food and drink.
During lockdown, Francis, who is a veteran in the artisan food and drink industry, has been running Zoom events every month called Meet the Cheese Maker. We are thrilled that now emerging from lockdown we can invite you to Stanfords to meet Francis and hear his tales and taste some delicious cheese!
Gimblett’s guide to the best of British cheeses is the first published guide which aims to do for cheese what wine guide do for the best wines each year.
This informative guide not only highlights the very best in British cheese making but also provides tasting notes and drink matching to enhance your enjoyment of the best artisan cheese available in the UK today.
In a winter break from cheese making duties, Francis Gimblett set himself a target of 100 days to visit 100 top British cheese makers, touring the country visiting Cornwall to Inverness, interviewing, tasting and photographing their finest cheeses to put this guide together.
The cost of the undertaking meant he had to camp on the roof of his Land Rover, exposing him to sub- zero temperatures, floods and a hurricane, at one point requiring an army rescue in the Brecon Beacons.
About the author:
In 1987 he became the country’s youngest head sommelier at a five-star hotel, a year after he was legally entitled to drink. After subsequent periods in fine wine broking then winemaking overseas, he formed the events company Taste of the Vine with his wife Pam. The company has since staged over 3000 wine, cheese, whisky, ale, cider and other fermentation-based events in 47 countries over 23 years. The passion for cheese overtook others and he and Pam started cheesemaker Gimblett Cheese after two years research and trials. In 2019, he launched the #CampaignforBritishArtisanCheese – a campaign to promote British Artisan Cheesemaking.
This event will start promptly at 6.30pm.
We are pleased to welcome back events to Stanfords. We will closely monitor any changes in Government policy that may impact the events and keep you up to date.
Ticket price £20.00.
