This virtual guided tour of churches in the central London district of Holborn has a Catholic theme, visiting two which worship in the modern Catholic tradition within the Church of England, and one Roman Catholic. St Andrew Holborn escaped the Great Fire of 1666, in such poor condition that it was rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren, then sensitively restored after wartime bombing. The Gothic Revival church of St Alban the Martyr Holborn was was also gutted and rebuilt after the Second World War. St Etheldreda Ely Place is effectively the oldest Roman Catholic church in England, having come full circle from its medieval origins through a chequered history to be restored as a Roman Catholic chapel again in the 1870s.
