This City is Made for Walking

The Temple Bar Trust is pleased to announce an occasional series of short films exploring overlooked or hidden aspects of the City, as seen through the eyes of the films' authors.

Each film will be premiered online on a Friday evening over drinks, with lively conversation and hosted by TBT Chairman Peter Murray.

This City is Made for Walking

This film, produced by Peter Murray, explores the fact that the City of London was a walking city in medieval times and there still remains a network of narrow alleys and passages that reflects the fine grain of the Square Mile before the Great Fire of 1666. This walk joins up ancient alleyways with pedestrian-friendly streets to provide a route that avoids the noise and pollution of the major thoroughfares. It starts in Chancery Lane in the west and finishes at Aldgate Square in the east.

As the Corporation’s transport strategies focus on active travel and better conditions for pedestrians and cyclists the alleyways have a role to play in improving the experience for those on foot. The traffic planners should create more coherent, signed routes to encourage more visitors and workers to use these historic pieces of infrastructure.

These are free events, but a voluntary donation to Temple Bar Trust would be greatly appreciated.
