An online event with New York Times-bestselling science writer Jo Marchant in conversation with Astronomer Royal Lord Martin Rees, to coincide with the release of Marchant's latest book, 'The Human Cosmos'.

For most of human history, we have led not just an earthly existence but a cosmic one. Our innate relationship with the stars has shaped our religious beliefs, power structures, scientific advances and even our biology. But over the last few centuries, have we lost our connection to the night sky, and at what cost?

In this conversation moderated by the Science Museum’s Roger Highfield, Jo Marchant and Martin Rees will take us on a tour through the history of humanity's relationship with the heavens and explore the crucial role it has played in making us who we are today. We’ll hear stories about the Hall of the Bulls in Lascaux, the summer solstice at a 5,000-year-old tomb at Newgrange and of Tahitian sailors navigating by the stars. We’ll also discover why stargazing can be really, really good for us. ·

Cost: £16.99
