A free spirit and radical visionary, history placed Sylvia Pankhurst in the shadow of her famous mother, Emmeline, and elder sister Christabel.

Yet Sylvia was the most revolutionary of them all, a natural rebel, a talented artist, prolific writer and newspaper editor.

Hers was a fascinating life both public and private. She started campaigning for votes for women but also was an active campaigner against racism and for liberation struggles in Africa and India. She had a great mind and engaged with Churchill, Lenin, Rosa Luxemburg and Haile Selassie, and Rachel Holmes’ zestful biography brings Sylvia’s life of resistance and controversial private life brilliantly to life.

Politician, barrister and human rights activist Shami Chakrabarti will be joining Rachel in conversation about Sylvia’s extraordinary life.

Cost: Free of Charge
