This introductory talk is a summary review of how Earth has maintained its stable climate within a few degrees in the “Goldilocks zone” orbit around the Sun, in the absolute zero of planetary space, under the relentless solar radiation that dominates Earth’s heat input and hence atmospheric climate. It will discuss how these physical effects all vary, on various time periods, and how the resulting climate perturbations are controlled by Earth’s natural responses to maintain self evident heat balance throughout these substantial variations and occasional extreme events.

About the speaker

Our speaker is Brian Catt, a Chartered Engineer and Physicist, who has worked at the National Physical Laboratory on radiation physics, protection and health and also at the Radiation Protection Service at Harwell
