Join historian Yasmin Khan in conversation with journalist and author Shrabani Basu as they discuss India’s role in the Second World War.
Over 2 million men from India fought in the Second World War, the largest volunteer army in world history. Hear about the experiences of these men, and of the people left behind on the Indian home front.
Dr Yasmin Khan is the author of ‘Raj at War: A People’s History of India’s Second World War’. By looking at the lives of ordinary Indian people at this extraordinary moment in history, Dr Khan explores the profound effects that mobilisation and war had on India.
Shrabani Basu began her career as a trainee journalist with ‘The Times of India’ in Bombay. Since moving to London in 1987, she has been a correspondent for the Calcutta-based newspaper ‘Ananda Bazar Patrika’ and ‘The Telegraph’. She is the author of ‘Victoria and Abdul’, ‘Spy Princess: The Life of Noor Inayat Khan’ and ‘For King and Another Country: Indian Soldiers on The Western Front 1914-18’.
