Explore 18th Century London through the eyes of two of its most celebrated artists: John Rocque and William Hogarth

John Rocque and William Hogarth were masters of their respective fields of cartography and satire, but they give us very different views of 18th century London. Appealing to the self-image of his wealthy patrons and clients, Rocque’s London is elegant and ordered. Whereas Hogarth’s London is one of exuberant people dancing with virtue and vice. In this talk we explore 18th century London through these two very different sets of eyes.

Long Views of London is a series of events will take us on journey through 500 years of London history. Our guides will include artists, planners and mapmakers and the myriad of images they created to record the fabric of the city and the people in it.
