Peterloo: From Page to Screen and Back Again

  6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The infamy of the Peterloo Massacre (16 August 1819) is explored in a 2018 film, for which the lecturer acted as a consultant. She will discuss the historian’s experience of working with Mike Leigh, who famously does not use a script and develops character and narrative through an extended method of improvisation and rehearsal.

The process of defining, organising and processing the film’s research will be covered, followed by the experience of subsequently writing a book supporting and expanding on the history set out in the film.

No reservations are required for this lecture. It will be run on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Doors will open 30 minutes before the start of the lecture

Cost: Free of Charge
