Curator Olenka Horbatsch offers an insight into the work of Rembrandt - one of the world's most renowned artists - by looking at his lesser-known works on paper and in print, with offer a truly personal look at his artistic vision.
Rembrandt’s works on paper display his unrivaled creativity. Rembrandt's drawings are perhaps the best document of his working practice and creative impulses. His prints were already in demand by collectors during his lifetime, yet his printmaking remained a highly personal venture and he did not readily avail himself to the many commercial opportunities available to printmakers in his day. Whether driven by the collector’s market or his artistic vision (or both), Rembrandt’s prints remain exceptional within the history of Western printmaking. This talk will examine his drawings and prints chronologically, and we will consider how Rembrandt wove graphic and painterly gestures throughout his long career.
This lecture includes a complimentary drink.
